Lovely (but brief) Weekend

Though the rain started falling near midnight on Saturday (last), we agreed that the 36 hours spent with the Franklins in Floyd County, VA near Hillsville were relaxing to the point that we both kind of forgot other things.  That's good!  Jack Franklin spent the first 18 years of his life in the rolling hills of the plateau that stretches all the way to Asheville.  At 2700 feet above sea level that means cooler than usual summers and some vicious wintry weather.  Jack had lots of stories and took great delight both in telling those stories and showing us some of the old neighborhood.  It was great fun.  We ate, sat on the porch of the log cabin that belongs to his niece, slept in on Sunday morning, ate some more and played our first games of "Sequence."

They had been inviting us to stay a weekend with them for more than a year, so it was great to finally have space to accept.  He is planning to kyak 15+ miles on the nearby Big Island Lake River next spring.  Do I want to join?

(Did we forget our camera?  'fraid so.)
