Pastor Dave invited those assembled for worship this morning to recite, "why you are thankful for your mother". Had there been more time and a genuine freedom for many of us to speak up, I would have said something like this:
I am grateful for my mother's mother, my grandmother. For example, as a young adult I learned that she had long and regularly prayed for her 20+ grandchildren - me included. I also discovered later that she had prayed for various missionaries including one missionary family in the Conservative Baptist denomination. That family was then living and working in India. Their name was Miner.
Years later Grandma Woodward met Jenny Miner, who was soon to become Mrs. Scott Hawkins. We were all quite amazed to learn of the connection - and grateful.
Still are. All of us are grateful for our mothers and grandmothers. And for little girls who grow up and become mothers and even grandmothers.

Wow! I don't remember hearing that story before! I was also thinking of my two grandmothers - with loving gratitude - on Mother's Day.
