Too Brief Respite

Between the two of us we keep pretty occupied.  Though the university has shifted to a slower, summer pace, we have maintained full days and, often, evenings.  For about the past 4-5 weeks we two had talked about getting away for a few days.  Finally, we did.  That was one week ago.  Only now are we getting around to sharing a few thoughts and views of those 44 hours away.

The setting at Morrow Mountain State Park suited us perfectly, including the up-close curiosity of the locals.

That included one large creature that at first I could not quite identify.

Ah, but it was friendly as were the other Ents.

The near total quietness was all that we had hoped it would be.  We read, ate, strolled, read, slept, read.  Only one thing was missing: the Park's swimming pool was closed for the season until the week following our visit.  (One of us did enter an open gate and test the water with a couple of quick, leisurely laps after jogging-walking a two mile trail.)
