Through the courtesy of an acquaintance at Blacknall we two escaped to a house-cottage at Lake Gaston during the past 72 hours. The co-owner had previously been indicating that it was available for "retreats", but I had been unsuccessful in scheduling small group outings at least three times in the past year. This time the schedule suited us mutually and she was delighted that just the two of us could get away.
About the only thing missing during our visit was access to a canoe. I bicycled on two different days - the roads were quiet and flat - we read, watched a couple of movies ("Captain Abu Raed") and another segment of "Planet Earth", and read Scripture leisurely. Since I am slated to deliver a devotional at an ISI retreat on 10/19, I appreciated time to collect some thoughts for that occasion. Unfortunately, however, one of us had caught a lousy, persistent cough that hindered her sleeping as well as she needed.
(This house is not where we stayed, but afforded a sampling of other houses located on multiple "fingers" of the body of water between the Kerr Reservoir and the Roanoke River (not sure about this latter term; need to look it up).
