It wasn't a mere bump in the night. About midnight your mother and everyone on the block were awakened (even me from the refreshing early moments of a deep sleep) by a very loud and scary crash. Clearly two cars had collided. Or rather...
In fact, as we soon discovered a [likely] intoxicated driver while heading north on Oakland Avenue had rammed his pick-up truck into the front end of a parked car just one house down and opposite 1406. We two got to the window in time to spot the strange scene. After about 30 seconds of our trying to figure out just what had happened the pick-up's driver backed his truck and proceeded on his way, though clearly his own vehicle was damaged.

Hit-and-run. But he didn't run far nor with any smarts (What intoxication can do.). He left a trail of truck parts and ran his flat tire to the rim in order to get home about two miles away. The police followed the trail and found the truck within minutes.
Meanwhile, Anna Rose's Volvo is "totaled." Not pretty. And very, very sad, though it did bring together about ten neighbors to console Anna Rose and tender offers of assistance.
